Fire Accident

FFR (Fire Accident) are FREER volunteer responders that are trained in providing emergency and rescue operations following fire outbreaks in offices, residential areas, market places, etc using the most effective and appropriate international standard.

According to report, between January and June 2024, 97 reported fire outbreaks affected a total of 12,376 households, representing 59,037 individuals across 32 IDP sites in Borno State. 32 causalities were reported during these incidents. The fire incident destroyed 11,639 shelters (emergency or self-made/makeshift units), with most of the affected population losing their belongings, including registration, food ration, and/or biometric identification cards, and food and non-food items.

The fire outbreaks exacerbated the humanitarian needs for 53,627 individuals, mainly women and children, being exposed to further undignified living conditions like sleeping in open or crowded spaces, which expose them to protection and health risks.

Duties of FREER INCLUDE:

1. Be available to help put out fire in any realistic means available
2. Using the most professional and safe approach to rescue victims held in the fire
3. Provide first aid appropriate to those victims and the degree of injury by prioritizing needed help
4. Evacuate casualties to the nearest hospital using FREER paramedic vehicle
5. Fire fighters are trained and can rescue victims of fire outbreaks and they collaborate with the Federal Fire service
