Sea Accident

FFR (Sea Accident) are FREER volunteer responders that are trained in providing emergency and rescue operations on the sea in case of a ship wreck, capsize or drowning of passengers.

according to report, every year, 236,000 people die by drowning across the world. Most of these deaths are in Africa and Asia. One person drowns every 90 seconds. Drowning is the third leading cause of accidental death, accounting for 7% of the total. It is a significant Public Health issue, belatedly recognised as a matter of universal concern through the WHO declaration of a World Drowning Prevention Day in 2021.

It is estimated that 27,000 Nigerians die annually of water-related causes – through floods and accidental drowning.

Duties of FREER include:

1. Diving into the water to prevent victims from drowning
2. Reviving unconscious victims who may have taken excess water
3. Prioritizing first aid
4. Evacuate casualties to the nearest hospital using FREER paramedic vehicle
5. Divers are trained swimmers that can rescue victims on the sea and they collaborate with local divers in the area for precautionary measures. Also, they collaborate with the Nigerian Navy
